Dance Intensives

Intensives are for the intermediate to advanced level students, ages 10 and up. Dancers will receive exceptional training appropriate for their age and level. All day intensives are from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm. Dancers should bring a bag lunch, water and snack. Please avoid peanut products in lunches and snacks. They should also come prepared with the appropriate dancewear and footwear for the day.  Each intensive week is geared towards a specific level.  Please discuss with the administrator or their current instructor at the school (for current students) which weeks are most appropriate for them.

Week 1

This week will include ballet, pointe, variations, repertory, and arts and crafts, focusing on the ballet Coppelia.  Deirdre Swindlehurst continues to bring her experience as a former dancer with Pennsylvania Ballet.  This week long intensive will conclude with a performance for family and friends on Friday, August 3.  A field trip to Jacob’s Pillow, the historical summer dance festival is planned for Thursday, August 2.   Appropriate for ages 10 and up, intermediate and advanced levels of ballet.

Week 2

Lisa McBride will lead this week of ballet,  pointe, modern, yoga,  and choreography.  Miss Lisa is former AAD of Riedel Dance Theatre and dancer with Lydia Johnson Dance and Dances Patrelle in NYC.  Dancers will get to explore the choreographic process this week!  Appropriate for ages 12 and up or with approval, Intermediate and Advanced levels.

Week 3

Anna Acker and Christine Geren will be here this week, instructing dancers in ballet, pointe, and modern, along with Pilates and yoga. Anna is a SABB faculty member and former dancer with the Milwaukee and Minnesota Ballets. Christine, performed with the Lake Erie Ballet and Albany Berkshire Ballet as a principal dancer.  Both are passionate about the art of dance and stress cross training for dancers is the best way to keep dancers strong and injury free, elongating a dancers’ career.  Appropriate for ages 12 and up, Intermediate and Advanced levels.

Week 4

Anna Acker, Dede Swindlehurst, Lisa McBride and Christine Geren are ready to get you back into shape for the new school year and have a great combination of classes for this week.  Dancers may have classes in ballet technique, pointe, modern, Pilates and Yoga.  This evening intensive is a must for Back To School!  Appropriate for ages 12 and up, Intermediate and  Advanced levels.
