Dance Intensives

Intensives are for the intermediate to advanced level students, ages 10 and up. Dancers will receive exceptional training appropriate for their age and level. All intensives are from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm. Dancers should bring a bag lunch, water and snack. Please avoid peanut products in lunches and snacks. They should also come prepared with the appropriate dancewear and footwear for the day.  Each intensive week is geared towards a specific level.  Please discuss with the administrator or their current instructor at the school (for current students) which weeks are most appropriate for them.

Weeks 1 & 2

Performance Workshop

This week will include ballet, pointe, variations, repertory, and arts and crafts, focusing on the ballet Cinderella.  Deirdre Swindlehurst continues to bring her experience as a former dancer with Pennsylvania Ballet.  This 2 week intensive will conclude with a performance for family and friends on Friday, July 28.  A field trip to Jacob’s Pillow, the historical summer dance festival is planned for Friday, July 21.  Appropriate for ages 10 and up, intermediate levels of ballet.

Week 3

This week will include ballet, pointe, variations, contemporary ballet, and strength and conditioning with special guest Paula Weber.  Ms. Weber is the Chair of the Dance Department at the University of Kansas City, MO.  Her energy and dedication to this artform is sure to prove an intense week of technique and strength building.   Appropriate for ages 12 and up, Advanced Intermediate and Advanced levels.  At least 2 years of pointe work required.


July 31 - August 4

Week 4

Anna Acker and Christine Geren reprise their highly popular intensive, instructing dancers in ballet, pointe, and modern, along with Pilates and yoga. Anna is a SABB faculty member and former dancer with the Milwaukee and Minnesota Ballets. Christine, performed with the Lake Erie Ballet and Albany Berkshire Ballet as a principal dancer.  Both are passionate about the art of dance and stress cross training for dancers is the best way to keep dancers strong and injury free, elongating a dancers’ career.  Appropriate for ages 13 and up, Advanced/Intermediate and Advanced levels.  At least 2 years of pointe work required.


August 7 - 11
8:30am - 3pm
12 & up – Intermediate & Advanced levels.

Week 5

Alicia Malone and Lisa McBride have a great combination of classes for this week’s intensive, sure to keep dancers versatile and strong for the school year ahead.  Alicia Malone, former member of the ABB is excited to share ballet, pointe and jazz this week.  Lisa McBride, a former dancer and Associate Artistic Director of Reidel Dance Theatre and current member of the Albany Berkshire Ballet, will be instructing modern, repertoire and yoga/ Pilates. Appropriate for ages 12 and up, Intermediate and  Advanced levels.
